Stainless steel is a large class of materials representing an alloy of iron and alloying elements. The main one is chromium, which forms a thin film of oxide on the surface of the product. The oxide film prevents further oxidation of the material and self-repairs in case of mechanical and chemical damage. It is to her that stainless steel owes its ability to resist corrosion. Other alloying additives include molybdenum, nickel and nitrogen. Many different variations of the alloy composition determine the existence of different grades of stainless steel with unique properties that determine their use. Stainless steel is characterized by high mechanical strength, durability, heat resistance, good weldability, outstanding hygienic and environmental properties, aesthetics. The main areas of its application are:

  • branches of mechanical engineering. Various equipment, parts and assemblies are made of stainless steel. It is used in transport engineering, including railcar and shipbuilding, production of cars, containers, etc.;
  • construction, architecture and design. Stainless steel is used as a structural material to create a metal frame of buildings and buildings made of profiled sheet; for the manufacture of various fences, structures. Modern architecture, especially in the high-tech style, prefers stainless decorative elements in the exterior and interior of buildings;
  • chemical, petrochemical, pulp and paper industries, which are characterized by aggressive environments, high temperatures, mechanical loads. The equipment for them is made of stainless steel with a high content of chromium, molybdenum and other additives;
  • food industry, at the enterprises of which there are special requirements for hygienic cleanliness and the absence of toxicity;
  • electric power industry based on fuel combustion and requiring the use of special high-alloy steels;
  • ecology. Modern requirements for environmental protection require re-equipment of production facilities. Stainless steel of various grades is widely used for new industrial equipment;
  • Gen. Household appliances, kitchen utensils, furniture elements, tools, etc. are made of stainless steel.
